The Acupuncture that almost was...

I told you all last Tuesday that I was going for my very first acupuncture appointment!  Well, I went, but we didn't start the acupunctures... Dr. Elson just spent some time getting to know me, so I got lots of pets, scratches and a nice massage for a whole hour!  He got lots of Corbin smoochies in return.  Needless to say, it didn't calm me down much.

So, he asked the momma if we'd be able to come back on Sunday... and that's what we did.  We went back on Sunday.  It was real quiet at the vets office and Dr. Elson spent some more time giving me good scratches before we started.  I didn't care much about the needles going in... they didn't bother me.

What. The. Heck.

But, I really didn't settle down and I was still very anxious and, well.... kind of cracker dog crazy.  The momma and Dr. Elson tried all sorts of relaxing things, but I just wasn't having any of it.  We stayed for about an hour, and gave it a real good shot... but it just wasn't meant to be.

There were about 18 total in my back, legs and head.

Dr. Elson did manage to get in quite a few needles.  He was surprised they stayed in for as long as they did with all my jumping and wiggling and crazy dog ways.

But, he said with all my activity and inability to relax, acupuncture just isn't the path for me to head down right now.  Oh well, can't say we didn't try! The momma was pretty bummed because she's heard such great things about how much acupuncture helped... but I guess I'm just THAT special! Dr. Elson did recommend a supplement for me to try that will help with my circulation. He thinks my body could use some help with circulating my blood and he was hoping the acupuncture would help that. He said it could be a cause for my heart problem, skin ichy allergies and my anxiety. The anxiety is something that's recently developed since all my ouchies started and the vet became a mean and scary place (besides seeing my girlfriends). So, maybe we'll try acupuncture another time, but as for now... no needles in this Corbin!

Not the face of acupuncture.

  1. OMD Corbin, you look like a crazy pin cushion, My Mum has always wanted to try acupuncture, she does massage and reflexology and knows some of the pressure points and even massages me too, but I cant say that I would sit still enough to have little pins in me! You are so brave and are so good to let them put those big acupuncture needsles in you! I'm sorry that the acupuncture didnt work for you, but I am very proud of you for giving it a go! I love all the cute corbin photos! Your so handsome!

  2. Hmmm would a sedative before treatment help? It seems a shame to just give up on something that might really help. Or maybe Mr Vet could come to your home and do it?

  6. Oh Corbin! (Hey, that would be a good name for your blog!!) Sorry you couldn't settle down enough to enjoy the process. The first acupuncture place mom took me to had soft lighting and relaxing people music playing and all kinds of cushions (not Georgia Little Pea's dad though). My regular vet just does it in her office and I get to lay on a big mat except mom always sits there and I lay on the floor where it's cool. ANYHOO, maybe with your supplements, you can relax and go back in the future. Your acupuncture vet sounds like a very cool guy!

  7. Let's hope the supplements work!

That was a LOT of needles! But acupuncture doesn't work for everyone, so don't lose heart. Maybe your mom can learn about T-Touch or something like that? Don't give up! :)

  12. Aw, I'm sorry the acupuncture didn't work out, Corbin :( One clinic my mom used to work had a cold laser that is helpful for a lot of different things like pain and wounds and inflammation. Maybe this could help you too? There are just a few things that it is not good for. I am sure your doctor will know what is best :)

  14. Hey Corbin!
Wow, it's a neat idea, but I sure don't blame you a bit for not cooperating with that! Gosh, look at all of those needles. The dogtor makes me go absolutely BONKERS, so I totally understand. Hopefully there will be some other option for you to help you out.
