Not the greatest news, but not the worst. Corbin woke up very lethargic this morning with white gums and a dry nose. So at 8am when our vet opened for emergency hours, I called and took him in. She did flex tests on his legs, checked his spine and neck. And although Corb was much more energetic, she listened to me. Once she ruled out all the external physical stuff, she decided to test for pancreatitis, even though he wasn't really tender in his abdomen. Came back positive and his red blood cell count was very high... he's staying there on fluids and antibiotics. He's not throwing up, so hopefully we're in the early stages.
Thank God I didn't listen to the emergency vet... I'm so thankful to have a wonderful crew of vets that trust me and how well I know my dog.
Thanks for all the prayers and support... I'm beside myself, but very thankful I listened to Corbin and trusted my gut. Please keep the prayers coming... the next 24 hours are pretty important for my big guy.
I'll update when I have news.
Corbin's momma, Jenn

Y'all have my prayers!!!!!! Please keep us updated.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you listened to your instincts. Please continue to do so and don't let those vets tell you any differently. I once had a situation with a sickly kitteh who was a regular visitor to the vets office. Initially, they tried to tell me kitteh was ok but after I insisted they check into it further, they ran blood tests and found the issue. If I hadn't of, kitteh would have suffered longer unnecessarily.
Get well soon, Corbin!
We are sending all sorts of purrrrrs to you and to Corbin. OMC we are sending our very best wishes and we will be back often to see if there's word on how he is doing. I'm glad to know that you caught it early. Looking forward to better news tomorrow.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this. We'll be thinking about you guys!!!
ReplyDeleteRats! We're so sorry you were struck down by this disease, which is becoming more common in dogs. Abby has chronic pancreatitis; we've been living with it for 7 years. We've managed to keep hers from becoming acute like Corbin's, although she does have flare-ups. Now that he's had the acute version, he's going to have the chronic version for life. The Whole Dog Journal did an article a couple of years ago that is a pretty good introduction. If you'd like mama to snail-mail you a copy, send us an email at jed_and_abbyATverizonDOTcom.
ReplyDeleteWe're keeping our paws crossed for you!
