A toe of woe

I was really excited to share some fun things with you this week... Amelia and I got to enjoy the boat and my lake this weekend for a little while.  But, I'll have to share that another day.  Unfortunately, I need some good thoughts and crossed paws... again.

Monday morning I woke up with a very heavy limp and I wasn't putting much weight on my left front paw.  This is the paw where I had my toe amputated from in February.  After the momma looked closely, she noticed my other toe was a bit swollen.  Worried even more that it was the same paw, she phoned the vet and thankfully caught Dr. Mike while he was there, since he doesn't usually see patients on a Monday.  He let me come in to see him though, because I'm special.  My toe kept getting bigger and bigger as the day went on... Dr. Mike was also concerned and put me on some antibiotics, hoping it's just an infection, since there was a tiny cut on my toe. The swelling has gone down slightly since Monday, but not as much as the momma was hoping for.

The momma also mentioned to Dr. Mike that I've been kind of "off" lately.  Nothing specific or urgent, which is why we didn't make an appointment, but some things she's noticed that worry her a bit.  My breathing can be sporadic and labored at times, mostly at night time, I've been laying in positions that I don't typically lie in unless I'm not feeling well and just some other unusual, weird tidbits that when singled out aren't too concerning.  Dr. Mike noticed that I've lost some of my expert muscle tones and my skin/fur is definitely worse than it was before.  It was decided that I will be gradually decreasing my prednisone until I'm off of it completely.  For a number of reasons, but mainly because it seems to be doing more harm than good for my body right now.  We'll be trying some alternative ways to keep my back pain at bay.

My nurse.

To make matters worse, the momma woke up last night to me having one of my trancey seizures.  The dad thinks he saw me have one a few nights ago when the momma wasn't home, so last night would make my 3rd.  I go back to see Dr. Mike tonight to assess where my toe is and to discuss some other options and where to go from here.  The dad is building me my very own ramp to my back yard so I won't have to do the 4 stairs anymore.  It'll be almost the length of my house, so it should make it easier on my back than doing the stairs, which seem to be hard on me in the morning.

This was me this morning.

The momma is hoping we can figure out a way to keep the Corbin happy and healthy and around for quite a bit longer.  I'm hoping for that, too.

  3. Corbin,
Momma and I are so very worried about you. It sounds like all sorts of weird stuff going on. Your momma is right to be concerned that you are "off" because our humans can see things that vets and folks can't because they don't watch us every day.

I sure hope that you can get back in the wellness zone and am keeping my labrapaws crossed for you. I know that Miss Amelia is being a good nurse.

    Kisses,
    Dexter
