The dog formerly known as Corbin.

Ok... so the title is a little dramatic. Nothing has happened to me, I'm A-OK.

Well, except that mom changed my name. She would like me to announce to everyone that I will now be answering to the name....
Harry Houdini.
I personally don't think it fits, but she said I don't get a say.

You see... When I was younger, I used to take my crate apart... while I was in it. I had a brief 2 week area of my life when I had some seperation anxiety. It was after I had lived with mom and dad for 3 months... and it left as quickly as it came. So, my parents reenforced my crate...

Well, a few months ago, mom came home and I greeted her at the door. My crate still latched and standing. She thought maybe she forgot to put me in it... so a few weeks ago, it happened again.

And last night? Yep... You guessed it. Waggin' at the door when dad showed up. No scratches, no missing hair... just POOF... and I'm out. My secret you ask? Well... a magician never reveals his secrets...

So I have a new name. Might take me a while to get used to it.

Note from mom: Corbin needs to be in a crate, otherwise he'll destroy the house just because he's bored. He'll go 2 weeks without touching anything, then we'll come home and a couch cushion will be in pieces, or he'll have found a zucchini on the counter and chomped on that or eaten an entire bag of Charlie Bears... he's destroyed ice cube trays and unopened mail... the list goes on. Also, he LOVES his crate... I can't stress that enough. We'll be home and looking for him and he's just chilling in his crate... and when it's time to leave for work in the morning, he's already in the crate before I can get a treat out of the jar. So I'm not sure if something spooks him and that's why he breaks free, or what. But thankfully, he hasn't hurt himself, thank God, and he really hasn't destroyed anything after getting out... except he unwrapped a birthday present one time.... he thinks all presents are for him. So we might try leaving him out of the crate again... but also not sure how that will work when we foster, because when a foster dog is in the crate and he's not, he runs up and down the hallway crying bloody murder. Oh, Corbin....

  1. Wow! That is some trick Corbin! Wish you lived closer and you could hang with Cooper during the day. He would love to have somebody to play with. He thinks he doesn't get nearly enough play time! But we know you prefer hangin' with the ladies, right?! BOL!

  3. OMG Corbin you sneaky dude!! HAHAH congrats on tricking your parentals! We leave Fred and haylie out all day but she occasionally chews stuff- mainly her bed so now she is bedless for a few weeks until she can earn the right to have it back. We couldnt crate one and not the other they would go balistic so I feel your pain!

  5. I loved my crate, too, Corbin. I nefur had to be in it coz I nommed stuff up, well after I growed out of the nomming effurything stage. But mom made me gib it up cold turkey when I woz about 4 years old coz a foster wot had surgery needed the big crate fur THREE MONTHS and we did not has room to put anudder big crate up. Took me a while to get used to not hasing a crate. But dude, eggscaping like that, pawsome! I has seen a few fosters do that. They slide the tray out and that is how they get out through the bottom. Then slide the tray back in so the pawrents can't figger it out. It do be a fine art of doggie contorshonism. I would watch and woof at them that mom woz not going to be happy when she got home... Moms has no sense of humors.

  7. Mr B had the same issue and he loves being in his crate and there is just a problem when the door is shut. He even did this thing when the bottom latch was undone and he wiggled his entire 75 lb body out. I guess we're lucky he's not destructive so he now lives in his tepee.

  11. What kind of crate do you have, Corbin? We all have had to be crated at some point in our lives, right now just Lightning. But we never managed to escape try as we might. We all have varikennels, the kind you use on airplanes. We would love to know your trick.

  12. Zip ties dude... They work like a charm. The foster sister I had knew how to squeeze under the bottom of the door of the crate and escape. So the crate was all still latched. A couple zip ties did the trick.

  27. Hm, Corbin that sounds familiar. Once I was moving in a new piece of furniture and had the apartment door and front door open. I put Billy in his crate closed the (waist-high) baby gate to his room and then closed the door too for good measure. He broke out of the crate, opened the door and jumped over the baby gate to come outside and find out what on earth we were trying to do outside without him. Sigh.
