Serena: Adopted

Foster sister Serena found her self a fantastic forever home this weekend!  Her new parents have had two previous huskies, so they know the breed well and they just fell in love with Serena.  They're willing to work on the few issues she has with mouthing.  The momma couldn't be happier with where she landed!  Nice fenced in yard and she'll be the only dog, which I think she'll really like!  No Corbin to compete with the attentions!

Good luck Diva Girl!  We wish you the best!

CANDi

Hi Everyone!

Corbin here and I'd like to bring some awareness to a program that I think is really wonderful.  It's called CANDi, and noooo, not the type you eat!  CANDi, Cats and Dogs International, is a non-profit organization that saves the lives of stray cats and dogs in the Caribbean and Mexico through spay, neuter, adoption and educational programs, which is supported and funded by the tourism industry, travelers and pet lovers. (got that blurb directly from CANDi's website!)

Help the momma's and puppies that are already in this world,
and help prevent future litters.

Now, how did the momma find out about this great cause?  Well, through the rescue, she met a great photographer and animal lover named Tracey.  Tracey volunteered earlier in January to fly down to Mexico and photograph CANDi's spay and neuter clinic.  Can you believe that over 1,300 animals were sterilized during this week long clinic?!  So many lives saved from preventing reproduction.

Luna's previous home and her previous condition.

While Tracey was down there volunteering, she saw the above dog and begged her owner to surrender her.  She did and Tracey named her Luna.  Luna received all the vet care she needed, which included 4 weeks of chemotherapy for the treatment of TVC cancer.  TVC is a sexually transmitted disease that also causes cancer and is, unfortunately, very common in Mexico and is spread through over breeding.  Luna's great veterinarian, Arturo Di, donated his time to care for Luna and her treatment costs were covered by monetary donations (information from Luna's Facebook page).

Luna's before and after.

Once she was healthy, Luna flew with her foster dad, Hecto Navarro, to New York where Tracey and Luna's new mama were waiting for her. Luna's transformation was amazing.  So many wonderful dogs, just like Luna, die and suffer every day in places like Mexico where there often isn't funds to apply to animal care.  These animals live on the streets with minimal access to food, water and vet care.  Organizations like CANDi help minimize the suffering by providing these clinics where families can bring their animals to be spayed or neutered.

Luna getting a taste of the good life!

Luna was given that second chance that so many dogs deserve.  She's living a fantastic life in upstate NY and her new mama even has a blog where you can find updates on Luna.  Luna also has a Facebook page where you can follow along with her new life.  She's trying to raise some money to help support another week long spay and neuter clinic to pay it forward and help these poor dogs in Mexico.  If you can, please consider donating to her quest.  $25 saves a dogs life!  A $25 donation also gets your picture in Luna's Facebook album of all her furry friends!  You can find me in there!

Also, if you live in my area and you're a golfer, you can sign up for Putt for the Pups!  This years golf tournament will benefits my rescue, Homeward Bound, as well as CANDi!

April Fool's

So, first of all, I'd like to say that no Corbin's were harmed in the writing of yesterday's post.  I was in on it, too.... hehe, super sorry for everyone's heart that stopped dead in it's tracks.  I hope we didn't lose any readers who were upset with our little "fool" and I super hope we didn't lose any readers due to stopped hearts!  The Corbin is here, safe and sound.

Could you imagine the momma living a life without the Corbin?  What kind of life would that be?  No human two legger could take my place.

Anywho, I could have April Fooled you by saying that Serena was adopted... BUT, can you believe that would be an April Fool's?!  Serena is still with us because she didn't find her perfect home at the adoption event!  Could have fooled us.  The Diva will be taking over my couch for another week.  Do you think the Corbin must have a super comfy couch with all these couch loving foster dogs???  Hm, maybe I'll have to trade it in for a less comfy couch.

So, again, sorry for all who got super upset... we thought the little "signs" would have given us away before you got to the April Fool's -like the momma giving me up for a mini two legger or lack of Corbin space!  hehe... Oh, Corbin is here to stay!

A sad day

A post by the momma:

This post is difficult to write...

We have unfortunately came to the difficult decision that our home is no longer the best home for Corbin.  We've thought about this for a while, but our life schedules and Corbin's needs just don't seem to match up right now.  We found out that we are expecting a baby and with this added responsibility and the limited amount of free time we will have to work with Corbin, it is in his best interest to find a new family.  He needs a family dedicated to his continued training and couch snuggling.  Also, Corbin is crated during the day, and the room we have designated for his crate will now need to be used as a baby room.  So, we simply won't have the room to care for him.

You don't want me anymore?

If you, or anyone you know, might be interested in adopting our goofy brown furball, please check out his Petfinder ad below and contact us at OhCuteCorbin(AT)gmail(DOT)com.

Oh, April Fools.... we could never give up our monkey dog.
And, no, we are not expecting a child.

However, on a more serious note, many people do re-home their dogs due to the arrival of a new baby human.  If you, or someone you know, is expecting a child and nervous about adapting their dog to the new family member, please check out the posts from our friends at Love and a Six Foot Leash about how they're getting their dogs ready to welcome their new baby!

Foster Friday: Serena

Hi!  I'm Serena and I'm Corbin's newest foster sister.  We may have had a bit of a rough start, but he's starting to like me more and more.  I even got him to play a little bit!  He tells me that my Diva ways get on his nerves, I told him to suck it up and deal with it.  Because, I am a Diva.

I mean, really... what's not to love about a beautiful girl like me?  I have gorgeous long, white hair and stunning blue eyes.  I look good in any color.  I'm a well behaved girl who is house trained, crate trained and I know quite a few commands already.  Oh, and I'm super smart.

I also have a bit of a silly side.  I like to play and "bop" Corbin on the head with my paw.  I jump and skip and I almost did a back flip the other day while I was playing!  I'm still perfecting that move, although every time I try it, foster momma lady says I give her a heart attack.  I will need some continued training when I find my forever family.... I can be a bit mouthy, but in this past week alone, I've learned that it's not a good thing to do, so I've just about stopped.  But, foster momma lady says that my new family will need to continue to enforce it by giving me other objects to chomp on besides human arms and wrists.

I can also use some follow up leash training.  I really enjoy long walks but, foster momma lady thinks she's smarter than I am and that my walking skills are not what they should be.  I try to tell her that I'm the smart one in the house and jumping and tugging at the leash is the proper way to do things.  She says she's smarter than me and that I need to learn how to walk nicely next to her like a lady.  Do you believe that?  She indirectly called me unladylike!  How rude.

Anyway... that's me in a Nut Serena Shell!  Beauty and Brains... what more could you ask for?!  Oh, a super sweet personality and an excellent cuddler?  Well, you're in luck, because I have both of those things too!  Tomorrow is my adoption event, so wish me luck!  I sure do hope that my perfect forever home comes along!  The momma says it has to be a forever home that understands and has experience with the Husky breed - I told her I'm the Diva breed, but whatever!

Wow!

The momma took over the blog yesterday and discussed some of my misbehaviors.  I, personally, think she totally over reacted... but, isn't that what momma's do?

Don't you think you exaggerated JUST a tad?

She was right about one thing though, I DO enjoy training time!  Know why?  Lots of yummy noms.  And, secretly -although, now it's no longer a secret- I love being told what a good boy I am!  And, I really do love the hide and seek game we play.... the momma always makes me think super hard about where she's hiding!  And, ya know, it might come in handy some day if the momma ever runs off and gets lost in the woods!  Although, I must admit, my sniffer is no where near as good as Küster's!  But, I do get more yummy noms when I find her, so I search really hard.

Noms that look like pizza!

I was glad to read all the comments and support and know that the momma and I are not the only ones going through a training lapse!  Dontcha know that in just 24 hours, that blog post became the SECOND most read blog post of all time for Oh, Corbin?!  Seriously, it's only about hundred views away from our most popular post to date: You call me a Pit Bull like it's a bad thing.  I guess people really like reading about my misbehaviors!

I'll be working REAL hard on my misbehaviors.

Reilly and Denny's momma did remind MY momma that the Prednisone I'm on can also cause me to show some extra aggressions.  The momma did remember learning about that least year when I first started taking the steroid, but it's slipped her mind recently.  There has been a change in my attitude since starting it, I used to love playing with other canine friends, but now I'm a little reserved and save my playing energies for fetch with dad.  But, odds are looking like I'll have to be on some amount of Prednisone for the rest of my life to keep my back ouchies at bay... so the momma and I will need to learn what part of my misbehaviors are the drugs and what part is the Corbin being a stubborn smart pooch.

It'll be an adventure for sure!
