My letter to PETA

First, follow this link and read the article: http://stubbydog.org/2012/08/a-letter-to-peta/

Now, you can read my thoughts:

Dear PETA,

I'm a Pit Bull. I was rescued from a shelter. I was fostered, then adopted, by my parents. My parents don't think I'm macho, as much as I try to get them to believe that I am.... I'm really kind of a push over. I'm also not considered a living weapon by my parents, or anyone for that matter... They would risk their lives before I had to risk mine. I've never been attached to a heavy chain, I've never been encouraged to be aggressive and I do not spend long days in extreme weather outside. I live in the comfort of my air conditioned/heated home with my soft dog bed that I sometimes share with foster siblings. I snuggle on the couch and in bed with my parents. I invite other shelter Pit Bulls into my home, and they're subject to the same wonderful life that I live and to the love of my parents until they find themselves a wonderful home of their own.

Out of the 25 foster dogs I have been a brother to in the last 2 years, 16 of them have been "pit bull" type dogs. I can tell you, with 100% certainty, none of them were adopted for the reasons you state. None of them live in horrible conditions. None of them are living weapons. Would all of my 25 foster siblings protect their families if it came down to it? You bet. From my Pit Bull fosters to my Dachshund fosters, it's called loyalty, PETA. Get it right.

And, instead of knocking all Pit Bulls, how about you look at the shelters? The ones allowing dogs to go into these types of homes that you describe? How about asking for stricter adoption rules? Adoption applications, vet checks, home visits, interviews? How about trying to decrease the number of dogs that end up living on chains after adoption? Isn't that the real problem, PETA?

Yours Truly,
Corbin, the Pit Bull

  1. Corbin, buddy, I wasn't able to read that linky thing because it asked for my FB data, but I get the gist from your letter. Right on, brother. Gotta vet those adopters better, right? I know it means a lot of work for the doggie orphan humans, but if they know that some doggies attract bad people, then they can just focus on them, right?

  2. Corbin, your words are true. I've never read a letter more off-base(PETA's, not your)... For the reasons, they state, dog abuse is equal across all breeds, not just pit-bulls... In addition, thru blogging, I know many pits that are well-loved. I think PETA is falling victim to bad media who also reports that all bully breeds are dangerous and should be destroyed. What a disappointing response from PETA - I don't support them. They are too far out of sync with the real picture to be effective and tend to follow the current trends, whether real or not. Sheesh...

Okay, off the soap box! :D Have a great day, Corbin!

  4. Dear Corbin,
PETA started out as a GOOD Organization that has gone BAD. I have no idea WHY this has happened butt it HAS. They have become so RADICAL and Far off Base that NOW if PETA says this is AUGUST I wouldn't Believe it fur a second.
You had a perfect response to them... I just WISH that they would READ it and UNDERSTAND the REALITY instead of their Misguided NONSENSE.
The GOOD NEWS is... WE know the TRUTH.

  9. Corbin, you've written a wonderfully thoughtful letter to PETA. We have no use for their skewed thinking or their perpetuation of a stereotype. What is ethical about that?

  10. Fantastic letter Corbin--and thanks for the link to Mina's great letter too. I used to be a huge PETA supporter because they are right on with respect to vegetarianism, fur, animal testing, etc. I changed my mind once I learned of their stance on pit bulls and their dismal lack of advocacy for shelter animals or enlightened shelter policies in general.

  11. I'm wondering when people will wake up to the fact that PETA isn't that great. I stopped supporting them a long time ago for a myriad of reasons. Their stance on pit bulls just makes me happier that I did so.

Corbin - you are such a great ambassador for the breed - full or mix, doesn't matter to most people. All I see when I look at you is one sweet, handsome fella!

  13. We hope you send it also. PETA's response to her was ridiculous. They tried to beat around the bush on every thing she was questioning.

  14. I got to read the article and I'm glad that Mina told them the honest truth. I used to be a member of PETA until I found how unorganized and unethical they really are. I hope you send your letter to them as well.

  20. Nicely stated Corbin. I gave up on PETA a while back. Just recently I got a letter from them asking for money for a particular cat cause. I sent them their donation page back and told them I will not support them and asked them to remove my name from their mailing list.

I thought they were people for the ethical treatment of animals?
